Archives for posts with tag: yarn

I was waiting for Ben to get some fabric cut at Spandex House in the garment district.

I looked out the window across the street and began peeping into the windows to see what was going on.
And I saw a place that had all this yarn on cones:

(Couldn't get my camera to zoom in anymore…)
But I thought that was so cool. I would love to have a long rack full of yarn.
Soon, world.
Dreams I need to write down so I can find them later on in the future (just gonna type this as it comes to my head, not going to try to make sense of it):
-I had a dream of lying on a lawn. Sunny day. Orange bright light. Surrounded by tons of flowers. And suddenly, some of the little flowers start to flutter like butterflies. But they're not butterflies—they're little tiny kittens with wings.
And they're bright green and purple and pink.
-Driving my younger sister to Maine with my father. Running out of gas. Shady stuff goes down. Can't remember.
-Weird "Twin Peaks" inspired story lines in this one: Videotapes. Scary masks. Shady business. Creeps. I see pink and red and dark black. Devils.
Ok, that's what I got so far.
Until next time,
c

First of all, look how beautiful/awesome my sister looks in the oversize cowl top I made her:

I made it in black because that's a color I know she'll wear.
I think it looks great in black. I like it more than the white.

Next, check out some these new skeins of yarn I made.
I'm really into them.

(The third one was a bit difficult to photograph.)

Remember when I said CUBIST LITERATURE yarn was soon to be carried in a yarn shop in the UK?
Well, it's happened!

My handspun skeins of yarn are now available at The Knitting Room in Bury, UK!

Here's what you'll find:

I was incredibly busy today.
Lots of running around.
I'll fill you in tomorrow.

I'm lying on my bed in my short shorts, feeling a slight breeze pass over me.
And I've got a pint of ice cream and a sweater beside me I'm almost finished knitting.

And this is probably one of the best feelings in the world.

A skein of yarn I made.
Not sure what I should make with it.

Spinning yarn.

If you're ever in Brooklyn and want to see nice old, decomposing houses covered in ivy, go to the intersection of Navy and Flushing.

They're eerie and beautiful.

I made a hat on Friday night using that newest skein of yarn I spun.

It took about 50-60 yards to make, I think.
And the yarn isn't as bulky as I thought. It's more of a medium weight.

The hat is really warm, though, and SO soft and light.

I hope I own it forever.

Gordo only drinks running water and only if it's from the bathroom sink.
When there's no water, he sits and waits for it.

His breath smells like fish and cat food.
He doesn't like to brush.

Comedy!

I cut my hair on Friday night because I was getting tired of what I saw when I looked in the mirror.

me

I still wasn't satisfied with what I saw when I looked in the mirror.
So, yesterday morning Ben J. shaved the right side of my head.
And then I shaved the left side of his.

There's not a whole lot more to discuss here.
This weekend was dead, and I was bummed for the majority of it.
It rained a lot, too. Really windy.

Usually I don't mind sitting outside on a bench on a cold day, eating a frozen treat.
But yesterday was miserable!

I made a nice hat on Friday night using that yarn I shared with you last time.
I might soon be selling my handspun yarn at a new yarn shop in the UK.

Of course I'll keep you updated.

Be good.
And try to have more fun than I do.
x,
c

There are other photographs.

This first set is of a new 2-ply skein I spun yesterday while waiting for UPS to bring me a box of new t-shirts and another box of shipping supplies so that I can get started on some back orders I have hovering over me, dampening my mood. The box never came.

It's made from merino wool fiber. Bulky, some thin parts. 166 yards.

The second set is of the new and improved test pair of short shorts:

I used Harrisville Design's New England Highland yarn. 100% Pure Wool.
Colors: Azure, High Pearl, and Plum.

The inseam of these is 3"; the outseam is 8".

Working the short rows differently really helped fix the problem I had before. (Thanks Karl from Ravelry for your suggestions!) No more bunching which is great. =)

Well, last night I got an email letting me know that Ben J. (of TAKEOFFYOURCLOTHES) and I got into the Renegade Craft Fair here in Brooklyn. So, if you're in NYC in early June, come check out our booth!

(The Renegade Craft Fair is June 6 and 7th at McCarren Park in Williamsburg, 11AM to 7PM.)

This past week I spent some time with my spinning wheel and practiced making 2-ply skeins with some fiber I had laying around my studio.

Here are the results:

I am hoping to be able to create more consistent skeins as time goes on.
I like thick-and-thin skeins a lot, but these days I prefer to knit with something that has a more constant weight and gauge.

So, I will be mailing these to my sister Windy soon—possibly tomorrow—to encourage her to keep on knitting.

I was discussing this last night: I'm not sure if I'd want to learn to knit all over again because sometimes I realize how much there is that I DON'T know and I get a bit overwhelmed. I know that no one can learn everything overnight and that these things take time, but still…

I think I might just be in one of those momentary ruts where I busy myself by comparing myself (and my skills) to others and get very discouraged and unhappy. You know, those moments when you're like, "What's the use? So-and-so is better than me and will always be better than me. You should just stop."

I don't get like this often at all. I'm usually content with my abilities because I know that they'll only improve.
But I'm human, so every once in awhile I start getting down on myself. And I become really frustrated, especially when I can't do something right. (Like this morning I was practicing cables and was NOT happy with myself or my results. It really bummed me out.)

This will pass.

Oh!
In other news, I reworked my short shorts, and they now fit GREAT! No bunching or anything.
I'm really happy with the results and cannot wait to make a pair with a carefully designed color pattern.

I'll post photos really soon.

That last photo really belongs with this set of photos of me wearing the red union suit (traditional butt flap and all) I just got:

I wish it didn't go so far up the rear, but it's not as much of a wedgie as it might seem.

I think red might be my most favorite color right now.
But I'm not a big fan of red t-shirts at the moment.
Red must be hidden or be barely visible.
At the most it should be an accessory.

I haven't been having a good past few days. Have been feeling rather uninspired and unmotivated.
I'm hoping it's just the cold weather. I'm not ready to fade away.

Yesterday my new bed and mattress came. (The bed was a gift from my younger sister, not the mattress or mattress cover or bed slats. I bought those. Thanks lil' girl!)
Ben J. came over and helped me put it together.
(I was pretty much useless, though. I was more like a slightly retarded sidekick you might see in a movie or something.)

Here's the bed:

I haven't put on the sheets yet.

And here's a photo of myself (what else?) I took a couple nights ago of me in my bathrobe (was waiting for the shower), wearing a Biore strip and a new hat I just made from an Elizabeth Zimmerman pattern (and using yarn I spun myself):
