SELF PORTRAIT THURSDAY!
8.16.12

I’m sitting here listening to that band Kittie. I used to listen to them when I was in tenth grade. That was about twelve years ago. I’m getting the same excitement listening to them as I did when I first heard their music.

I used to go to a lot of metal and punk shows because that’s just what a lot of us did. But there was always a meathead vibe in the air. Of course we were young and couldn’t quite recognize that. I guess the whole fratboy thing was something that was accepted and thought of as cool… Though I never quite got it. I didn’t like it because I didn’t want to be that kind of guy.

But when I heard bands like Bikini Kill and Babes in Toyland and Kittie for the first time in tenth grade, it was a sort of revelation: you could make really aggressive, cool music and not be a dick about it.

I like that.

In other news, this latest portrait is kind of a trip because I saw into the future. I could kind of see what I’ll look like when I get older. Those photos always weird me out. And then listening to Kittie takes me back… I can see into the future and past at the same time in one portrait.
