Usually I'm very resistant to pop music. Really, for "cool" status points that don't mean anything.
But in the recent past, I've just had to get over myself and accept certain music as good and entertaining and visually appetizing to watch.
This is the case with my recent acceptance/embracing of Beyonce.
First of all, I've never said anything bad about Beyonce before because I have always respected her—since back to Destiny's Child. She's very talented, and more importantly she's also very humble. She knows her role as a performer, but she also knows when to turn it off and act like a normal person.
I've also always loved that she uses an all-female live backing band. That is something that's important to me and says a lot about an entertainer.
But it wasn't until I saw the "Diva" video that her music took on whole different edge.
My kinda edge.
There's only one way to describe Beyonce in this video: hot.
No, HOT.
Her backup dancers: HOT.
She's wearing all Gareth Pugh in this video, and it looks amazing on her.
Those sunglasses(?) she wears in the beginning are very cool and set the tone for the video. (Not to mention, the naked disassembled mannequins.) Her backup dancers, before they turn around, look like something from a Margiela show with their hair being all awesome and long and Cousin Itt-like. (At least that's what it makes me think of.)
I can watch that video over and over.
Good song and, yes, visually appetizing.
This other video is something else that's been playing in my head.
It's a great live version of "Halo", which is already a good song. I don't usually like live versions of any song, really, but this is a good one that supplements the original—and even stands on its own.
Beyonce's voice is amazing.
And we see that she's also very bendy. (A major plus for Jay Z, I guess.)
The part in the video when she reaches out to hold that one fan's hand… I love that.
You know she totally made her day.
Or days.
