My really good friend (and sometimes bandmate and forever muse) Lillian G. has once again taken on another project that I am falling for over and over again: running a mobile fresh-cut fruit cart on Rockaway Beach. And it’s called Shore Fruit.
Lillian told me awhile back that she and her girlfriend were planning on running a fruit stand on the beach. And I thought it was a cool idea.
I mean, it’s not something I would do. But this is the thing about Lillian. She’s always doing things I wouldn’t do. Like the time she rented out our favorite Italian shaved ice place in Williamsburg and turned it into a fake travel agency. And the time she became a fake forest ranger. And the time she bought a boat house out in the Rockaways and started living on it.
But every time she does something I always end up super intrigued and into it. Always supportive of her.
I realized last week when I was visiting with her that Shore Fruit is actually a sort of artistic endeavor. It isn’t just a fruit stand business. It’s part of Lillian’s art, which encompasses her life.
It makes me very grateful to know her.
Shore Fruit was just written up in New York Magazine, too!
So, if you find yourself out in the Rockaways, look out for Shore Fruit! Tell ‘em Craig Hunter sent you.

I love that idea. When we were at the beach, there was no fresh fruit anywhere on the boardwalk! French fries and ice cream, yes. Light, delicious fruit? Nope.
